New deli in town

McAlister's Deli, which started in 1989 with a single restaurant in Mississippi and now has more than 400 restaurants in 28 states, is opening a location in Glenview.

Termed a "fast-casual" restaurant, McAlister's will officially open at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at 2351 Willow Road. It will operate daily from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m.

The restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, especially club sandwiches, as well as salads, "giant spuds" loaded with ingredients, soup and chili, and desserts.

One of McAlister's calling cards is its Rainforest Alliance Certified black tea, sweetened with pure cane sugar. As a bonus, to celebrate the grand opening of the Glenview restaurant, McAlister's will be giving away free tea for a year to the first 100 people in line on opening day Feb. 22.

The restaurant is offering another promotion even before its official opening day. From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 19, and again from 4-7 p.m., McAlister's will celebrate "local hometown heroes." Doctors, nurses, military, police officers and firefighters will be treated to a free meal and drink of their choice.

McAlister's has drawn much notice among food-industry press, with the QSR website noting the Atlanta-based franchise "continues to build momentum ..." The restaurant offers an application and rewards program, and can be contacted at (224) 529-5902 and online at www.mcalistersdeli.com.
