Boys volleyball: Mundelein takes second at Hoffman Estates
Mundelein takes second: What a difference a year makes.
Last year, Mundelein went 0-5 and finished last at the Hoffman Estates Invite.
This weekend, the Mustangs went 4-1 in Hoffman Estates and finished second in the tournament.
Mundelein's only loss was to Oak Park River Forest, 25-23, 25-15. The Mustangs got wins over West Chicago, Hoffman Estates, Bartlett and Palatine.
"What a day. What a turn around in a year," Mundelein coach George Dressen said. "The team played so well together! Very proud of what we did today."
Linden Ewing led the way for Mundelein with 45 kills for the tournament while Abram Nazario had 28 kills and Marc Rey had 18 kills to go along with 13 blocks.
Setter Steven Miritello had 104 assists and Ben Arebalo had 37 digs.
Joliet West Invite:
Stevenson had a strong finish at the Joliet West Invite and finished 4-1 there.
"We lost a nail bitter to Plainfield South to finish pool play," Stevenson coach Eric Goolish said. "However we finished off well by winning the silver bracket."
Stevenson is now 5-1 on the season.
On Saturday, Stevenson defeated Bollingbrook (25-20, 25-20) and Wheaton North (25-21, 25-23).
Over those two games, Grant Maleski had 17ills, Will Sorenson had 21 assists and Austin Zhou had 13 digs.
Vernon Hills Invite: Vernon Hills went 1-4 in its own tournament, with its lone victory coming over Prospect, 25-23, 26-24.
Sophomore Derrick Jones had 25 kills over the tournament while Drake DeBoer had 22.
