Monon Greenway to get be widened in Carmel to avoid crowding

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The city of Carmel is planning to widen the Monon Greenway through its downtown in an effort to keep the trail from being overcrowded by new businesses in the area.

The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1PvAGYz) reports that Mayor Jim Brainard and City Council members expressed concern with overcrowding near City Center and the Arts & Design District. The city has since hired San Francisco-based Gehl Studio to redesign a portion of the trail near those areas.

Meanwhile, the city of Westfield and Hamilton County plan to connect some of the disjointed sections of the Monon within the next year while also constructing a pedestrian bridge for the trail to extend over Indiana 32 by 2019.
