Girls volleyball: O'Brien, Wildcats wrap up North Suburban title

Morgan O'Brien added to her recently established school record for career digs, and Libertyville's girls volleyball team clinched its third straight North Suburban Conference championship with a 25-17, 25-17 win over host Zion-Benton on Wednesday night.

The Wildcats (24-11, 7-0) also stretched their NSC winning streak to 28 matches.

The Illinois-bound O'Brien had 14 digs, giving her 2,069 in her four-year varsity career. In the title match of Saturday's Maine West Pumpkin Classic, O'Brien surpassed Kristen Webb (2,054) as Libertyville's all-time leader in digs.

Anna Lillydahl dished out 12 assists and put down 5 kills against Zion-Benton. Haley Stevenson and Madi O'Brien each had 4 kills for the Wildcats.

Libertyville is the top seed in the Class 4A Lakes sectional and will play Tuesday night in the Warren regional against the winner of Monday's match between Mundelein and Zion-Benton.

Stevenson d. Warren: Jori Radtke had 16 kills, as the visiting Patriots won their regular-season finale 25-23, 25-19.

Stevenson (28-7) finished 5-2 in the North Suburban Conference.

Sophie Sorenson added 7 kills for Stevenson, while Hope Havenhill chipped in 4 kills, 2 solo blocks and 2 assisted blocks. Sarah Woodstein had 3 kills, Chloe Robinson collected 3 aces and 12 digs, and Alex Cuc dished out 28 assists.

Natalie McNally's 7 kills led Warren. Claire Lundtveit and Marissa Kuula added 5 and 4 kills, respectively, and Dana Lundtveit had 2 blocks.

Lake Zurich d. Mundelein: The host Bears won the North Suburban finale 25-17, 25-14.

Mundelein (11-24, 2-5) received 4 kills from Sidney Brunkow, 3 kills from Katherine East and 2 aces from Mackenzie Linane.

Highland Park d. Vernon Hills: The Cougars lost 23-25, 25-20, 25-12 in their Central Suburban League North finale.

Vernon Hills (8-22) finished 2-8 in their inaugural season in the CSL North.
