Schaumburg Places Sixth in Digital Cities Survey

The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce it has placed sixth in the 2018 Digital Cities Survey, which recognized cities using technology to tackle social challenges, enhance cybersecurity, improve transparency and much more. Schaumburg is the only Illinois community ranked in the top 10 of its population category.

"We're continually working to provide enhanced services as well as improved transparency to our citizens through the use of various technology platforms," said Peter Schaak, Director of Information Technology. "We're pleased to be recognized for our achievements and we pride ourselves on a being a leader in using technology services to benefit our customers."

Open to all U.S. cities, the survey honors cities in five population classifications: 500,000 or more, 250,000 to 499,999; 125,000 to 249,999; 75,000 to 124,999 and fewer than 75,000. Schaumburg was ranked sixth in cities with a population of 74,999 or less and is the only Illinois suburb to be awarded from all the population classifications.

The village recently completed a number of technology initiatives in 2018 to increase efficiency including:

• Implementing a mobile application for building inspectors to review and provide comments to enhance and streamline the village's building inspection process.

• Increasing transparency by implementing a webcasting program for the public to conveniently view and access Village Board meetings.

• Developing a new mobile application for residents, visitors, and business to easily and quickly access information about core village services that are most frequently visited on the village's website.

• Installing a security camera network in and around key village facilities to provide visibility into critical public spaces allowing village staff to monitor and respond to security events in village facilities.

"I commend the village's Information Technology Department for continuing to enhance operations to improve the way customers interact with the village," said Village Manager Brian Townsend. "Providing top-notch service is essential for the village to continue offering a high-quality way of life for our residents, businesses and visitors."

The top-10 ranked cities will be honored at an awards dinner during the National League of Cities' annual conference in Los Angeles, CA, on Thursday, Nov. 8.
