Association for Individual Development's annual benefit helps youth, adults with mental health challenges
The Association for Individual Development hosted the annual benefit auction Oct. 11 at the scenic Fishermen's Inn in Elburn.
Hundreds of items and vacations were available for bidding during the live and silent auctions with all proceeds benefiting more than 5,500 individuals with physical, developmental, intellectual and mental health challenges.
Nicole P., an AID Employment Services client, delivered the most notable moment of the event when she spoke to a captive audience about the significant employment support she has received from AID.
"I stand before you here, on this beautiful night, to say that I work in my own community. I earn a fair wage, and I have a job that I chose for myself! October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and I feel empowered," Nicole P. said.
The Association for Individual Development has provided services to individuals with disabilities in the Fox Valley area for 57 years and is truly blessed to have made so many friends and partnered with so many supporters along the way. The demand for services far outweighs the current resources and AID must turn to community supporters to preserve and enhance many vital services.
