St. Theresa School students to honor local veterans in annual Veterans Day Service

Mark your calendar for Friday, Nov. 11, as St. Theresa School students honor our veterans in the school's annual Veterans Day Service at 12 p.m. at St. Theresa Church, 455 N. Benton St., Palatine.

St. Theresa School is honored to host this year's Veterans Day Service. The Keynote speaker, Mr. Richard Duchossois, graduated from Morgan Park Military Academy and attended Washington and Lee University before he began his active military service in 1942. He served in five European campaigns, including Normandy, where he was a tank commander under General Patton during World War II, and attained the rank of Major before he was released from active service in 1946. He received a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, five campaign stars as well as France's highest award, The French Legion of Honor, for his military service in Normandy. He also received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Washington and Lee University and an honorary business degree from Loyola University in Chicago. Mr. Duchossois recently celebrated his 95th birthday on Oct. 7.

In addition to the keynote speaker, St. Theresa School welcomes the United States Marine Corps Color Guard and Marine Sgt William Mefferd. Mefferd served as an active duty Combat Engineer from May 2012 - 2016 in Helmand, province Afghanistan.

Refreshments will be served after the service by the Parents Association of St. Theresa School. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with our honorary guests. The service and celebration of veterans is open to the public.
