Schaumburg Boomers host Early Oktoberfest Friday

Wearing lederhosen-style jerseys, the Schaumburg Boomers baseball team will celebrate their hometown's German heritage with a special Early Oktoberfest promotion at their 6:30 p.m. game Friday, June 9, at Boomers Stadium.

The specially designed jerseys will be auctioned during the game to benefit Oak Leyden Adult Services.

The Early Oktoberfest event is presented by Hofbrauhaus Chicago and also will feature bratwurst, German beers including Warsteiner, German-themed contests and a pre-game performance by the band Alpine Thunder.

A post-game fireworks show, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, will close the evening.

"Although Schaumburg is now considered a center for commercial activity, its earliest residents were primarily German immigrants that made their living running family farms," Boomers President Pete Laven said. "They are the people that built this community and it will be fun to pay tribute to them while giving our fans a fresh, new experience with our Early Oktoberfest promotion."

The 14-7 Boomers are only half a game behind the first place Windy City Thunderbolts in the Frontier League's East Division, and will host the Normal Cornbelters this weekend at the stadium at 1999 S. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.
