How you can help shape Glenview's downtown at open house
An open house Thursday night continues the process of Glenview's modifications to Downtown Development District regulations.
As at a public open house held last month, residents will be able to indicate their preferences on code elements and provide feedback, said Jeff Brady, Glenview's director of Community Development.
"Primarily the focus is on the design areas," Brady said. "As you can anticipate, (building) height is one of the concerns that the community has relayed."
The open house will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in the lobby of Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Ave., in Gallery Park.
The Glenview Village board on July 20 adopted the Economic Development Strategic Plan and Downtown Strategic Plan crafted through the yearlong Glenview Connect process led by design and real estate consultants Callison RTKL and Ricker Cunningham, with public input.
Trustees on April 8 authorized Callison to update Downtown Development (D-D) District regulations, with a temporary moratorium on D-D development extended to Oct. 21 from April 22.
The New Development Commission heard a lengthy report on code updates by Callison associate principal Erich Dohrer on Aug. 25. The commission's next public hearing pertaining to Downtown Development Code will be Sept. 22 at Village Hall.
If residents had any questions after the Aug. 25 report, Thursday's open house "would be an opportunity to get those questions answered," Brady said.
In his Aug. 25 presentation, Dohrer said the Aug. 12 open house drew about 50 people.
"We're wanting people to stop by and learn more about the process and share feedback on proposed design elements. Those are the design elements that the New Development Commission will begin considering at their Sept. 22 meeting," Brady said.
"This is just the start. We've got more work to do and more tweaks to make before the commission makes its recommendation to the board."
