Abreu named AL Player of Week for sixth time

For the sixth time in his career, Jose Abreu was named American League Player of the Week on Monday.

From May 24-30, Abreu batted .375 (9-for-24) and had 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 10 RBI and 4 walks.

Abreu last won AL Player of the Week honors in August of 2020, when he hit .533 (16-for-30) with 3 doubles, 7 homers and 15 RBI. Six of those home runs came in a three-game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field (Aug. 21-23).

Heading into Tuesday's play, Abreu led the majors with 46 RBI. The 34-year-old first baseman is looking to join the Tigers' Cecil Fielder (1990-92) as the only hitters to lead the AL in RBI in three straight seasons.
