Girls volleyball: Lake County roundup

Erica Grant and Keelan Bell pounded 8 and 7 kills, respectively, and Lakes' girls volleyball team remained undefeated by beating Deerfield 25-19, 25-20 in a nonconference match Wednesday night.

Katie Billetdeaux added 5 kills for the Eagles, who improved to 8-0. Lakes' other contributors included Alyssa Bombicino (9 digs), Devinn Bell (11 assists) and Rachel Orpano (9 assists).

"A total team victory celebrated as all Eagles saw the court," coach Jenni Floren said.

Wauconda d. Warren: The Bulldogs won a thriller, 14-25, 25-23, 25-12 in nonconference action, as Carlie Krachtus had 7 kills and Jane Sakowicz notched 27 digs.

Summer Olsen had 10 assists and 3 aces for Wauconda (5-3), and Savannah Johnson pounded 5 kills.

Leyden d. Vernon Hills: The Cougars lost 28-26, 25-23 in a nonconference match.

The Cougars (2-1) were led offensively by senior Taylor Harte with 5 kills and sophomore setter Maddie Bowen with 16 assists.

Hersey d. Libertyville: Hersey's girls volleyball team had more than week off since its opening-night win at St. Viator on Aug. 21.

The Huskies were eager to get back on the floor and they showed it on Wednesday at Libertyville.

Led by 12 kills from sophomore Kati Kaburov and 8 from Amy Morgan, the Huskies posted a 21-25 25-14 25-21 nonconference triumph over the Wildcats.
