Girls volleyball: St. Viator nets win over hosts at Wheaton North Invite
St. Viator's girls volleyball team finished 1-4 at the Wheaton North tournament on Saturday, with its one win coming over the host Falcons 25-15, 29-31, 25-23.
Attack leaders in the five matches (two were on Wednesday) for the Lions (1-5 overall) were Kate Nottoli (41 kills), Carrie Leazer (41 kills), Ella Kull (17 kills), Lauren Allaire (16 kills), Anna Haas (14 kills), Marie Torosian (9), Lilly LaFleur (5 kills) and Erin Aldana (5 kills).
Aldana collected 126 settings while Carrie Leazer paced the back row with 74 digs.
Top servers for the Lions were Leazer (11 aces) and Allaire (7).
Buffalo Grove also went 1-4 at the tourney.
In a two-set loss to York on Saturday, Claire Ferriss led BG with 13 kills while setter Maggie Streckert, who was named to the all-tourney team, collected 16 assists.
Streckert also had an ace in the match, as did teammates Megan Mitsunaga, Nina Masciopinto and Kristen Belias.
Harper wins three: Harper College finished 3-1 at the Waubonsee Invite.
The Hawks, ranked No. 2 nationally in Division III junior college, defeated Henry Ford (Mich.) 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 on Friday and fell to Division 2 No. 20 Muskego in three sets.
On Saturday, the Hawks defeated Oakton college 25-20, 25-12, 18-25, 25-15 and Macomb 25-21, 25-22, 25-11.
"It was a great start to the new season again," said Hawks coach Bob Vilsoet. "This is how something special starts. We really did play well this weekend. We have new superstars emerging."
