Financial Professionals Explore Leadership Path
For many, professional development opportunities and clear paths to progression are seen as attractive benefits when they begin their career journey. Individuals want to move up the career ladder as soon as they can, taking on new responsibilities and increase their responsibilities. But is leadership right for everyone?
"Today's emerging leader wants a clear career path and the ability to self-determine," said Andrew J. Higney, Chief Development Officer. "They crave opportunities to learn and grow and they want development programs that will help them achieve their goals."
A program offered by Northwestern Mutual - Chicago allows developing leaders at the financial planning firm to determine whether a long-term leadership path is right for them. Leadership through Education, Achievement & Development (LEAD) program is a two-year program that focuses on skill development in the areas of recruiting and selecting, training and development, business operations, and leadership. Participants gain access to senior management, one-on-one coaching, mentoring, group learning opportunities and special events.
When selecting program participants Higney wants someone who displays drive and purpose, fosters an inclusive workplace, takes a long-term view and can build on the firm's shared vision.
The financial planning firm recently welcomed four new financial representatives to the program including: Jonak Gonzalez, Hayley Tuitman, Chase Vedrode and Taylor Overman. They join Dave C Fortosis Jr, Richard Meade, JD, Matt Ward, Derek Blanchard and Todd Trexler.
.
The program has become a stepping stone for any person who seeks a management role in the firm. Whether they are at the entry level or executive level, leaders are promoted from within, notes Higney. "It's something that sets our firm culture apart. We believe it is important for a leader to have shared experiences with the people they lead."
