White Sox to address Jimenez's status on Monday

On Twitter Friday, USA Today's Bob Nightengale said the White Sox are not calling up top prospect Eloy Jimenez for the final month of the regular season.

While he is obviously ready for the major leagues based on his dynamic bat with Class AAA Charlotte and AA Birmingham this season, there is a feeling the Sox are going to wait until April of 2019 to bring Jimenez to the major leagues. That would give the White Sox another year of contractual control before the power-hitting outfielder is eligible for free agency.

The Sox sent out a release after Nightengale's report: "No final decision has been made on the entire list of Chicago White Sox call-ups for September. General Manager Rick Hahn plans to meet with media pregame Monday to discuss the final list after all affected players have been informed of the club's plans."

Cedeno traded:

The Sox traded closer Joakim Soria to the Brewers on July 26.

Before Friday night's game against the Red Sox, they sent another reliever to Milwaukee - Xavier Cedeno. In 33 appearances with the White Sox, the left-hander was 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 1 save.

The White Sox got a pair of minor leaguers from Milwaukee, outfielder Bryan Connell and pitcher Johan Dominguez.

Hamilton up:

Needing a relief pitcher after trading Xavier Cedeno to the Brewers, the Sox purchased Ian Hamilton's contract from Class AAA Charlotte.

Hamilton, a 23-year-old righty, was a combined 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA and 22 saves with Charlotte and AA Birmingham this season.

"Pretty good slider," Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "Downhill tilt, pretty good action. We like him. Hopefully he'll be able to help us out a little bit."

Sale sighting:

On the disabled list with shoulder inflammation for the second time since July 12, Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale is throwing off flat ground and trying to get healthy.

"It's feeling good," said Sale, who pitched for the White Sox from 2010-16. "I think we are kind of over that hump of how does it feel, stiffness, soreness. We are starting to build up strength and getting ready to pitch in a game."

Sale has been busy rehabbing his shoulder but was looking forward to watching Michael Kopech pitch for the first time in Friday night's start against Boston.

After the 2016 season, Sale was traded to the Red Sox for Kopech, Yoan Moncada and outfield prospect Luis Basabe.

"I'm excited to see Kopech pitch," Sale said. "I know he's got a live arm and he's pitching against his old team, so it should be fun to watch."
