'Evolution' at North Suburban Y
The North Suburban YMCA is a perfect setting for an art exhibition by former clinical social worker Jan Keller Schultz of Highland Park.
The artist's three-piece display, "Evolution," will be shown during the month of April in the Community Gallery of the North Suburban YMCA, 2705 Techny Road, Northbrook.
The unique works are comprised of one Sumi-e (Asian art) painting, a watercolor and one woven piece.
"I began with Sumi-e, moved on to watercolors, and am currently experimenting with a technique where I cut up several of my watercolors and reweave them together to form an entirely different work of art, with a focus on composition, color and texture," Schultz stated in a release by the North Suburban YMCA.
"This new show reflects my changing interests and growth as an artist," she said.
Schultz started her career as an artist a decade ago while still working as a clinical social worker.
The pieces in "Evolution" are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the YMCA's Visual Arts Program.
The North Suburban YMCA's Community Gallery supports local arts by offering free public exhibitions of work by artists in the Northern suburbs. It also offers art classes and studio space for people of all ages. Visit NSYMCA.org for details.
