Luggage for Freedom helps women survive

Submitted by Lekas & Levine PR

Luggage for Freedom is a program that strives to give dignity to women who are transitioning out of a domestic violence or homeless situation and residing in a shelter.

Partnered with Irv's Luggage, 1322 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills, gently-used luggage is packed with new bed linens, towels and personal items collected and donated to the shelters.

The program was organized by the National Council of Jewish Women Chicago North Shore Section. Area residents can drop off new merchandise to fill the suitcases and help make a positive impact on someone's life.

Irv's Luggage was opened last summer by Renee and Pete Silverman. Renee's father founded the original Irv's in 1947.
