The construction season hits Glenview streets
The Village of Glenview has cleared the way for summer resurfacing and improvements on a multitude of streets.
At the village board meeting of April 20 trustees awarded a contract to Arrow Road Construction Company of Elk Grove not to exceed $1,974,294 for Glenview's 2021 road resurfacing program. The Arrow bid was the lowest supplied by the four firms considered, and came in $100,000 under budget, according to the village.
To resurface one of the streets involved, Wilmette Avenue from its west end to Leclair Avenue, Glenview has entered into an intragovernmental agreement with the Village of Wilmette for the resurfacing. Wilmette Avenue is under jurisdiction of both Glenview and Wilmette, which has agreed to reimburse 50% of construction costs for that road, or $57,500.
All told, the 2021 road resurfacing program includes 3.5 miles of roadway on 17 street sections and a Spruce Street alley, plus about 10,000 square yards of resurfacing through the village's Minor Repair Strategy (MARS) program.
The approximate start date of construction is July 15 with an end date around Sept. 24.
The improvements span streets from Glenview's western border (Crescent Lane) to the east (Wilmette Avenue and Long Road), and to Summit Lane on the north.
They also include portions of: Ardmore Avenue, Brandon Road, Brook Lane, Brush Hill Lane, Cabot Lane, Dale Street, Depot Street, Hollywood Avenue, Monterey Drive, Pynsky Road, Saratoga Lane, the south circle of Westleigh Drive and Woodlawn Avenue. These areas incorporate approximately 18,600 linear feet of roadway resurfacing, the village stated.
The work will include installing some 890 feet of storm sewer, replacing sanitary sewer manholes and either repair or replacement of adjacent impacted areas such as driveways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
The Glenview board of trustees approved the project funding during the fiscal year 2021 Capital Improvement Plan budget hearings. All but around $13,000 comes out of the village's Motor Fuel Tax fund.
