Schaumburg police encourage new ways to support Special Olympics

Due to the pandemic-related cancellation of Dunkin' Donuts' "Cop on a Rooftop" events this year, Schaumburg police are encouraging the public to seek out other ways to financially support the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.

The Schaumburg department is aiming to raise $5,000 for Special Olympics by Nov. 30. The public can donate online or mail a check (payable to Special Olympics Illinois) to Sgt. Karen McCartney at the Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 W. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg IL 60194.

Donations are tax deductible and appreciated in any amount, police said.

Supporters of Special Olympics may also buy a raffle ticket for a camper drawing on Oct. 16. Tickets are available online or at the Schaumburg Police Department.

They may also purchase a raffle ticket for a Harley-Davidson drawing Oct. 16. These tickets can also be bought online or at the police station.

Purchases of such Law Enforcement Torch Run merchandise as T-shirts, hats and more also helps support Special Olympics Illinois, Schaumburg police said.

For more information, contact Sgt. Karen McCartney at (847) 348-7220 or Paula Diaz at (847) 348-7274.

Supporters of Special Olympics are encouraged to call soon for merchandise or raffle ticket purchases, as there is a only limited supply available.
