Indian-American federation providing free COVID-19 testing
The Federation of Indian Associations of Chicago, whose founder President Sunil Shah is a Schaumburg resident, demonstrated its dedication to the local community last week by providing free COVID-19 testing for staff at Hoffman Estates' village hall and police station.
Next week, the federation will be providing the same service for Hoffman Estates Fire Department staff, and recently approached the village of Schaumburg about providing similar testing for its staff.
Federation officials said their goal is to bridge a gap in providing tests to the people who need them most.
In doing so, the federation has partnered with a major medical laboratory. Bhavesh Patel with Doctors General Laboratory provided the testing kits and services.
Shah and other FIA leaders attended the testing last Friday at the Hoffman Estates village hall, where they were joined by Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod and village Trustee Gary Stanton.
FIA Chicago is a registered nonprofit umbrella organization of several other Indian associations in the Chicago area and Midwest. It represents more than 300,000 culturally diverse but united Indian-Americans.
