Friendly chamber game

Already accomplished in delivering a pitch and hitting a home run, the Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods and Northbrook chambers of commerce will try to prove their mettle on the softball field.

Members and friends of the two chambers who are over 18 years old are invited to join the Northbrook vs. DBR Softball Classic from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Maplewood Park, 900 Clay Court.

There is no cost to join the roster, but people must register. Start by visiting www.dbrchamber.com or northbrookchamber.org.

The announcement advises to bring your own glove, so we're thinking it's a game of 12-inch softball and not 16-inch. That ball moves fast.

The Northfield Park District is updating its master plan, identifying objectives to implement over the next five years.

To help guide the master plan update, the park district is seeking residential participation in a survey available online through Aug. 14.

Farmstand hands

Those at the Northbrook Farmers Market say that as school gets back underway, vendors need part-time help at their booths. Those jobs will soon be available.

After the farmers market Wednesday, July 27, there are 11 remaining market days scheduled this season. The Northbrook Farmers Market is held from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. each Wednesday through Oct. 12 at the Meadow Plaza parking lot, Cherry Lane and Meadow Street.
