Community Helpers Visit with Oakbrook Kindergarten Students
Oakbrook School Kindergarten students visited with Wood Dale community helpers today to learn about their jobs. Police Officer Danzi, Firefighter Ostrega, Michelle Silver and Brad Thomas from the Wood Dale Park District, and Caterina Aiello from Wood Dale Bank visited with both the morning and afternoon kindergarten students to tell them about their jobs and how they help the community. Panel members were generous with their time, showing students the tools they use, athletic apparel, coins and bills, and they allowed students to ask many questions about the services each provides to the community. The afternoon students also had the added treat of a visit from Buck the dog, the mascot of the Wood Dale Bank. The visit gave the students first-hand experiences with real-life workers to enhance their studies of Community Helpers in Social Studies. Oakbrook School is very grateful to the panel members who volunteered their time. According to Kindergarten student, Kendall, “A police officer is a community helper. They help, that's a good thing!” Oakbrook Elementary School serves grade K-2 students in Wood Dale School District 7.
