Is Bears offense finally ready to show up and play?

The New York Giants Sunday will come to Soldier Field Sunday on

a six-game losing streak.

Whether their bye last Sunday helped to refresh and rejuvenate them, or left them to think about the offseason is an unknown.

The Bears have dropped five of their last six, but did get an ugly win over the Lions two weeks ago, should have beaten the Chargers and could have beaten the Raiders, Eagles and Rams.

That's why they're a 6½ point favorite, but the concern is does that just make them the taller midget?

The hardest part of breaking down this one is trying to figure out who will come to play?

The Giants have been bad for a while and know there is nothing they can do to salvage this season.

The Bears are still mathematically alive, but realistically done for the season as well.

However they are coming off an excellent season last year, have been a huge disappointment to date this year and may be angry and motivated to show up and send a message.

Or they could be thinking about where they'd like to vacation in January.

I asked Matt Nagy Friday how he handles the amateur psychologist responsibilities of his job, reading the mood of his team?

"Just making sure that 'Hey, understand during our install meetings the details of how we teach things,'" he said. "They can never take that for granted because they've got to take that to the field.

"And then if you see any sloppiness or repeated mistakes because of the demeanor of where you're at that day, that week, that game, you have to confront them and you've got to let them know, whoever it is, it doesn't matter, whether it's the quarterback, the wide receiver, the DB, the d-lineman.

"I'm about open communication and letting them know when it's good and when it's bad."

Has he had a game or a moment this season where he feared his guys weren't ready?

"Nope. I haven't had that in a long time."

If the Bears are ready, they should win.

Of course that's exactly what we thought last year when they went to New York riding a five-game winning streak in Week 13, Chase Daniel threw a pick-6 to linebacker Alec Ogletree on the second play of the game and the Bears never recovered, losing 30-27 in overtime.

The two wild cards for the Bears this Sunday will be Saquon Barkley and rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

Barkley will be the best offensive player on the field but he's been banged up most of the season with a bum ankle and a bruised shoulder. His production is way down.

Khalil Mack is still concerned.

"He's explosive, man. He can sneak in and have a big play out of nowhere, and he'll be jumping over guys and all these different things.

"And so it's going to be huge for us to make sure we consistently shut him down this week and it's going to be a big task for us."

Jones has just 7 NFL starts but he's been better than Trubisky to date with an 88.0 passer rating, 1,984 yards, 15 touchdowns, 8 interceptions and 2 rushing TDs.

Mack has been impressed.

"You see a player who is progressing every week," Mack said. "They are throwing different things at him and he's adjusting. Yeah. One of the more impressive guys I've seen. Especially ... just his kind of knowledge of the game. You can tell that he can read coverages and different things."

On the other side of the ball we don't know if Trubisky's 100 percent after last Sunday's hip pointer but he seems certain to go, and the Giants defense has been awful this season in every category but interceptions and sacks.

This one actually sets up a lot like the Lions did a couple weeks ago and it's reasonable to assume the Bears can get back to "Club Dub" again.

The next question is if they do, can they earn enough style points this week to deserve it.

If not, Bears nation is likely to remain unimpressed and unfulfilled.
