Mount Prospect officer honored for saving infant
Mount Prospect officials honored police officer Christopher Berg this week for his actions in saving the life of an infant.
Fire Chief Brian Lambel presented Berg with a fire chief's citation for his Jan. 16 response to an emergency call regarding a 1-month old child who had stopped breathing.
Berg, the first on the scene, arrived to find boy's father performing CPR. He took over and within 30 seconds the boy revived and began to cry, officials said.
"The fire department believes that (because of) the actions and the professionalism and the composure of officer Christopher Berg, this had a positive outcome," Lambel told the village board Tuesday.
Berg was also honored in 2004 for successfully using CPR on a resident who had collapsed in a parking lot.
In addition to the chief's citation, Berg received a Heart Saver Hero certificate from the American Heart Association.
"It was very emotional, because I am a father," Berg said of his heroic actions Jan. 16. "It had an incredible ending, and the reunion with the father was very emotional both for the father and for myself."
