Celebrate the High Holy Days with Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors starting Sept. 29
Come celebrate the Jewish High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, with Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors in Geneva. Whether you are Jewish or part of an interfaith Jewish family, and whether or not you are a member of a neighboring synagogue, you're welcome to spend time with your Jewish neighbors in the Tri-Cities.
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year.
The central observance of Rosh Hashanah is the sounding of the shofar, the ram's horn. The "cry of the shofar" is a call to repentance.
This High Holy Day begins the "Ten Days of Repentance" which culminate with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the Jewish year.
The Rosh Hashanah service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.
The Yom Kippur service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, with a light supper available prior to the service, at 5:30 p.m.
The meal is potluck, and participants are welcome to contribute sandwiches, sides, and desserts. Please do not combine meat and dairy in the same dish.
Both services will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St. in Geneva.
Each service will be led by Cindy Michelassi, professional Jewish song leader and rabbinical assistant. For more about Michelassi, see home.xnet.com/~rtm/.
