Help St. Paul UCC's Thanksgiving Box event with donations

St. Paul United Church of Christ in Barrington will once again be creating Thanksgiving Boxes for area families this holiday season.

Each box includes items for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, along with items that are pantry staples and a gift card to purchase a turkey at a local grocery.

The boxes will be delivered to families Monday, Nov. 21.

The Thanksgiving Box Program, now in its 13th year, has seen a large increase in boxes needed in the last two years.

"We've set a goal for 222 boxes this year, but we know the need is so much greater," program Director Jennie Nock said. "The holidays are stressful enough, but this year families are feeling that stress more significantly. We're trying to help as much as possible."

Asked if there is a way for area community members to be a part of the effort to help others, Nock replied with a resounding, "Yes!"

"At St. Paul, we live by the motto that together we can make a big difference. It would be so awesome if others want to help and become a part of making an even bigger difference for our community."

Nock recommends that people join the effort by either sending a check to the church at St. Paul UCC, 401 E. Main St., Barrington, IL 60010. Or, donate electronically through the church's website, www.stpauluccbarrington.org, using the button on the front page labeled "Donate" under the Thanksgiving Boxes tab.

Each box costs $75 to create, and any amount donated will help and be greatly appreciated. The deadline to donate is Sunday, Nov. 13.
