Hoffman Estates Citizens Police Academy accepting applications

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is accepting applications for its 31st annual Citizens Police Academy, which will begin Jan. 7.

The academy gives participants insight into police work and the functions of the department. Students will interact with real police equipment, such as squad cars, riot gear and firearms.

Patrol officers, detectives and other guest speakers will provide briefings and lessons.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside, attend school, or work in Hoffman Estates.

Classes will meet Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. For more information and to download an application, visit HoffmanEstates.org/police.
