Former Crystal Lake employee to take new role in East Dundee

East Dundee has hired an assistant village administrator to help manage special projects and day-to-day operations.

Brad Mitchell, a Crystal Lake resident originally from Mundelein, is expected to have a hand in planning and zoning, marketing, special events and risk management responsibilities, village officials said. He started Monday, and is being paid $85,000.

Village Administrator Jennifer Johnsen said Mitchell, 35, was chosen based on his "diverse skill set and community spirit." Having worked previously as the assistant to the city manager in Crystal Lake, she said, he has also shown a dedication for public service.

"Brad is a great match for the village, and we are excited that he has joined our team," she said.

Johnsen was initially hired in October as East Dundee's deputy village administrator and was promoted to the administrator position when her predecessor retired earlier this year. The village started seeking a new employee shortly after to assist with Johnsen's duties, which include budgeting, economic development, collective bargaining, special taxing districts and village board meetings.

Mitchell received his bachelor's degree in political science from Western Illinois University before attending the University of Illinois at Springfield to receive his master's degree in public administration.

Mitchell said he's appreciative of East Dundee's dedication to its residents and businesses. "I look forward to serving this community as the village continues to move forward," he said.
