Police: Death of woman hit by train in Mt. Prospect a suicide
The death of a 59-year-old Woodstock woman struck by a Metra train Thursday in Mount Prospect has been ruled a suicide, authorities said Friday.
Union Pacific Northwest trains were halted for more than an hour in either direction after outbound train No. 627 struck the person at 4:52 p.m. near the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Maple Street, which is about a tenth of a mile from the Mount Prospect Metra station.
Police said Friday their preliminary investigation showed the woman intentionally walked onto the railroad tracks from the pedestrian crosswalk, directly in the path of the oncoming train.
