Chicago White Sox's Moncada sits out with another leg cramp

For the second time in two weeks, Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada is dealing with a hamstring injury.

That's what it's being called again, but fortunately for Moncada and the Sox, it's more of a cramp issue.

Held out of the starting lineup Thursday night against the Minnesota Twins, Moncada is expected to be back Friday.

"(Moncada) is doing fine," White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "He was tested, everything looked fine. He's continuing to do all of his routines."

Before playing their first game of the homestand Thursday, Renteria said he cautioned his players about cramping.

"We're trying to get these guys to continue to stay hydrated," Renteria said. "Hydration is something we talked about today at length. I think (Moncada) will be fine."

More injuries:

On Wednesday, Sox general manager Rick Hahn told reporters in St. Louis that injured right fielder Avisail Garcia is on the disabled list with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and "it's going to take a few weeks to get him back active at this level."

Out since April 24, Garcia's status came up again Thursday with manager Rick Renteria.

"He's doing very well," Renteria said. "Pain free, stretching very well. He did some high intensity work. He's still a bit limited in the weight-bearing aspect of it.

"He's still has to go through the process of continuing going to his active work, sprints, things of that nature, and then we'll see where we're at. But he's moving along very, very well."

Catcher Welington Castillo was scratched from Thursday's game with lower abdominal pain.

Fitting in:

Coming up from Class AAA Charlotte on April 24 after Avisail Garcia landed on the disabled list, Daniel Palka made his fifth start for the Sox on Thursday.

Thanks to a 4-hit effort in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader at Kansas City, Palka arrived back at Guaranteed Rate Field batting .300.

"I feel comfortable," said Palka, who hit a 2-run homer off Twins starter Jake Odorizzi in the fourth inning. "These guys, they took me in from Day 1 at spring training, so it's been fun being here. I've clicked well with the other guys."

Booth change:

Tom Paciorek, who worked on White Sox TV broadcasts with Ken "Hawk" Harrelson from 1991-99, is back in the booth for the series against the Twins.

Paciorek is replacing Steve Stone and pairing up with Jason Benetti through Saturday. Harrelson and Paciorek will be reunited for Sunday's series finale.
