Tired of negativity from state reps

In a letter to the editor, Oct. 12, State Senator Michael Connelley implies that the implosion of AT&T's business in Naperville was related to government policies in Illinois and calls for greater fiscal constraint and reduction of social services. He quotes the partisan state comptroller's office that GDP growth in the state is below average.

I am disgusted with the constant negativity of my state representatives, both Jeanne Ives and Mike Connelly have done nothing but criticize the leadership of the state and have offered nothing in return but a program which reduces, if not eliminates, the right of workers to represent themselves collectively. Their town hall meetings have been nothing more than complaint sessions without any specifics of how they or their partisan governor proposes to correct budget shortfalls.

As a correction to Connelley's implication that Springfield policies are destroying businesses in the state, we should note that corporate mis-management brought an end to AT&T's presence in the suburbs. Also ignored by Sen. Connelley is that a constant stream of companies are setting up offices in Illinois to find the talent not found in neighboring states.
