Geneva, Ginsberg enjoy Senior Night win over Batavia

There have been some impressive athletic achievements at Geneva's Mack Olson gym, but you could argue that no one has enjoyed its comfortable environs as much as the Ginsberg sisters during the past decade.

Senior Claire Ginsberg, the youngest of the three Ginsberg sisters (Jenna 2013, Grace 2015), finished her final regular season meet in wonderful fashion, winning the all-around with a season-high 37.75 while helping the Vikings score a season-best 145.6 as they cruised past rival Batavia's 131.7.

"It's so weird, but with the regionals I know I'll still have one more time competing in the Mack," Ginsberg said. "It seems like just yesterday I was here as a freshman watching my sister have her Senior Night."

The Vikings recognized Ginsberg, Paige Beitzel and Michaela Allen - their three seniors - a season after not having any seniors on the roster for the first time in program history.

"It's hard to believe it's come down to this and with the flowers and everything, it finally is starting to hit me," Beitzel said. "This is my last year doing gymnastics so this was special, but we're excited too. We hit tonight and now have conference and regionals coming up so we're looking forward to seeing what more we can do."

Ginsberg won vault, bars and beam and Allen placed second on those same three events. The juniors also delivered as Lily Chapman won floor and Bailey Pihera and Kelly Frank took third on bars and beam respectively.

Sophomore Gracie De Vita added two keys scores on vault and bars and junior Holly Friedel also contributed on beam.

"Our goal is state and I think we can make that happen," Ginsberg said. "We had some personal bests (on Wednesday) and I still don't think it's as good as we can get. We're going to try to be consistent and still try to get better."

Batavia is also a team that is finishing its season in strong fashion.

"The funny thing is that we still haven't been able to have a full team lineup this year because of people being out," Bulldogs coach Taryn Boyce said. "They've been impressive."

Senior Cameron Hindel led the Bulldogs in the all-around with a 34.6 while freshman Olivia Barolotta added a 33.75,

Hindel finished third on vault with a 9.2 while she tied Barolotta and Rachel Kauchak for the team's top score on bars with a 7.6.

"They were freaking out at the beginning of the season, but they should be happy with where they are now," Boyce said. "I'm satisfied and they're still looking promising for the end of the year. They're pulling it all together which is what we want now."

Both team will compete in the Upstate Eight Conference meet, along with St. Charles co-op and U-46 co-op, at DeKalb on Saturday.
