Texans extend general manager Rick Smith's contract

HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Texans extended general manager Rick Smith's contract four years Friday through the 2020 season.

Entering his 11th season with the Texans, Smith has served as general manager since 2006 and added the title of executive vice president before the 2011 season.

"I believe it is critical to have stability within an organization and Rick is an important part of our team," owner Robert C. McNair said in a team statement. "He knows what our objectives are and is well-respected within our organization and throughout the league."
