Area brass bands team up for evening of lively music
Three of the Midwest's premier British style brass bands will be joining forces to present "Brass Band Bash IV." Join host band, the Illinois Brass Band at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Lions Park Veterans Memorial Band Shell, 411 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect, for an evening of music.
Featured will be the Milwaukee Festival Brass of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; the Prairie Brass Band of Arlington Heights; and the host, Illinois Brass Band. Each of the bands maintain an extensive performance schedule and are joining forces for an evening of brass band music.
It will be a lively evening filled with marches, film music, overtures, jazz, Dixieland, Broadway, hymn tunes and, of course, patriotic selections. The bands will each present individual programs and then the combined 90 brass and percussion players will join forces for the grand finale and encore performance.
This is the first time the three bands have come together for a free summer concert in the Chicago suburban area.
The Milwaukee Festival Brass and Illinois Brass Band are both active members in the North American Brass Band Association and participate in the annual brass band championships. The Prairie Brass Band is the host band for the annual U.S. Open Championship held in St. Charles every November.
There will also be a guest appearance by Sine Wave Brass of Elburn, a Drum Corps Associates mini corps. The band will open the evening with their 2019 competition program.
Bring a blanket or chair and a picnic dinner while enjoying a concert by four of the finest brass groups in the Midwest. Concessions will be available. The performance will go on rain or shine; however, in the event of inclement weather the performance will move into the Lions Park recreation building.
The event is free and family friendly. This event is presented in conjunction with the Mount Prospect Park District.
