Greater Elgin Family Care Center celebrates multiple National Quality of Care Awards
On Aug. 26, the Greater Elgin Family Care Center celebrated the receipt of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Quality Leader Award and Health Center Quality Leader Gold Award with a host of federal and local officials and dignitaries, as well as with all of the center's board of directors and staff.
Also celebrated during the National Quality Leader Award Celebration were the center's receipt of the Advancing HIT for Quality and Clinical Quality Improver awards, also offered by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
The awards are based on the center's 2018 clinical outcomes, which have again been recognized among the best of all Federally Qualified Health Centers in the United States and Illinois.
Congratulatory letters from Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi were read by the center's board chair and Elgin City Councilman Corey Dixon.
After comments from Douglas O'Brien, regional director of the Department of Health and Human Services, and Tamara Cox, regional administrator of Health Resources and Services Administration; and Anne Huang, nurse consultant for Health Resources and Services Administration, presented the awards to the center's medical director Dr. Mark Thompson, board chair Corey Dixon, and president/CEO Bob Tanner.
Additional congratulatory comments were offered by state Sen. Cristina Castro (22nd District), state Rep. Anna Moeller (43rd District), and Elgin Mayor David Kaptain.
The event was streamed live to all Greater Elgin Family Care Center Health Centers and staff members and culminated with comments by Tanner and a toast offered by Dixon.
The Greater Elgin Family Care Center's Hypertension/Heart Health outcome ranked in the top 2 percent nationally, resulting in the National Quality Leader Award. The center has now received the premier award - National Quality Leader - twice.
Its overall clinical outcomes ranked in the top 10% of the country's 1,362 reporting Federally Qualified Health Centers, resulting in the receipt of the Health Center Quality Leader-Gold Award. It has received the National Health Center Quality Leader for six consecutive years, the National Clinical Quality Improver Award in five of the past six years, and the Advancing HIT for Quality Award every year it has been offered.
The Greater Elgin Family Care Center is also a 2017 Million Hearts Hypertension Control Champion, awarded by the Centers for Disease Control.
