Island Lake to talk recreational pot Thursday

The Island Lake village board will meet Thursday to discuss possible rules for marijuana dispensaries in town.

The issue before the board is whether to refer a proposed zoning ordinance governing such businesses to the village's planning and zoning commission. The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 3720 Greenleaf Ave.

As of Jan. 1, the recreational use of marijuana will be allowed in Illinois, and state-licensed dispensaries will be allowed to operate. But municipal governments can restrict or ban such stores. No medical marijuana dispensaries currently operate in Island Lake.
