Girls volleyball: Carmel downs St. Viator
Sophomore outside hitter Annie Bart had 5 kills and served 7 of 7 with 1 ace, as Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team beat host St. Viator 25-22, 25-22 Tuesday for its second win in as many nights.
The Corsairs improved to 7-6 and 1-1 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
Mya Mainzer and Eileen Tarcha added 3 kills apiece for Carmel. The Corsairs' other contributors included Anna Clesceri (3 digs), Kaitlyn Donton (8 assists, 8-of-8 serving, 3 digs), Amber Dorn (2 kills), Tayah Farris (2 blocks), Jolina Moisio (7 digs), Milana Moisio (6 digs, 3 aces) and Patti Needham (6 assists).
"Two wins this week bodes well as we approach the St. Viator tournament this weekend where we will face some quality competition," Carmel coach David Pazely said.
St. Viator fell to 5-9 and 0-2 in the ESCC.
Grayslake Central d. Woodstock: Taylor Hindman hammered 8 kills, Elisa Koshy rang up 18 assists, 6 aces and 5 kills, and the visiting Rams won 25-18, 25-22 in nonconference action.
Grayslake Central (14-8) also got contributions from Cassidy Beshel (8 kills, 2 aces, 1 block), Emma Henne (3 kills), Kate Bullman (2 kills), Abby Marassa (13 digs, 1 ace), Maya Schnitzler (5 digs) and Taylor Ford (4 digs).
Highland Park d. Vernon Hills: The Cougars lost 25-18, 25-9 in their Central Suburban League North Division opener.
Vernon Hills fell to 3-7 overall.
