Cantigny beer tasting to benefit veterans
Those who have always wanted to "pay it forward" on Veterans Day will get their chance this year at the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park.
The museum is hosting Brew It Forward, a beer-tasting event, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, on the grounds around the museum, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.
Guests will have an opportunity to donate directly to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton or purchase a cold one for a veteran.
Participating craft brewers are Bell's, Goose Island, Lake Brothers, Lagunitas, 4204 Main Street, Virtue Cider and Veteran's Beer Company. Each 3-oz. beer sample will be $2; three for $5; or eight for $10.
All veterans in attendance will receive two complimentary tastings. Vets also may draw from a basket of tasting tickets paid for and donated for their use by visitors who wish to say "thank you" on Veterans Day.
Family activities will include the Cantina Cantigny hot chocolate station, poppy craft, story time in a World War II-era vehicle and preparing gift bags for veterans in need.
Admission to Brew It Forward is free, and parking at Cantigny throughout Veterans Day also is complimentary. Food and beverages will be for sale.
Visitors may wish to arrive early and tour the First Division Museum, recently reopened following a 10-month renovation. Museum hours on Veterans Day are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Museum admission is always free.
