New Harper College student trustee appointed
Lavleen Mal was sworn in this week as the new student trustee on the Harper College board.
The 20-year-old Palatine resident was elected by his peers to serve a one-year term. He will get to cast advisory votes with the seven-member elected board that oversees the Palatine-based community college.
Mal has served as president of Harper's International Students Club, student ambassador for the college's Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation effort and a nonvoting senator in the Student Government Association. He moved to Palatine from India in 2016, and enrolled in Harper as an English as a Second Language student. He's currently studying psychology and criminal justice.
