Smoke detectors alert Fox Lake homeowners to fire in bathroom

Working smoke detectors helped keep a bathroom fire caused by a faulty exhaust fan from becoming much worse Tuesday evening, Fox Lake Fire Protection District officials said.

Firefighters were called to the 37000 block of North West Street at about 5:30 p.m. by the owner of the two-story, single-family home.

Upon arrival, they found light smoke showing from the eaves of the house.

No injuries were reported in the blaze that took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish in the ceiling of the first floor bathroom.

Firefighters were on scene for about an hour afterward.

No damage estimate was available.

Fire officials said the house was deemed uninhabitable.
