The joy of getting things done
I find it a joy to support candidates who put the nation and the needs of its people first, and work fearlessly both across the aisle and within the party to get things done - one of many reasons I support Congressman Peter Roskam.
Recently, as chairman of the House Ways & Means Subcommittee on Oversight, Roskam brought to light abuses by the IRS in which they would seize the bank accounts of small businesses without their knowledge for allegedly structuring bank deposits to hide wrongdoing, such as drug trafficking, but the IRS was not required to provide proof of wrongdoing. These overbearing tactics would bring small business to the verge of closing their doors, for even if their assertions were wrong, the IRS kept the cash.
This practice was increasingly being used on innocent people, and Roskam was not only able to make the IRS begin paying back the money they'd wrongfully seized and bring a stop to the process by prompting the IRS and the Justice Department to change their policies, but he also introduced legislation with Democrat Joseph Crowley from New York to make these policy changes into law.
Roskam was able to get support from all the Democrats on the subcommittee who were similarly outraged, including Danny Davis from Chicago.
Sometimes, an issue doesn't need to be donkeys and elephants and I'm glad I've got a congressman who gets things done. Thank you, Peter.
