Man who was unaware that house was ablaze rescued by Mount Prospect firefighters

Mount Prospect firefighters helped a man escape a burning home Tuesday afternoon.

The man was still in the lower level of a split-level house on the 1400 block of East Green Lane in Mount Prospect when firefighters arrived about 12:15 p.m. to battle a blaze that was burning through the roof, according to Mount Prospect Deputy Fire Chief John Dolan. The man did not sustain serious injuries but was checked out by paramedics, Dolan said.

A neighbor called 911 after noticing smoke. Dolan said the man who was in the basement hadn't known the building was on fire.

Dolan said crews from Palatine, Arlington Heights, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, Northbrook and Elk Grove Township assisted Mount Prospect.

The fire was put out after several hours, Dolan said, and its cause was being investigated.
