Wauconda FBLA, local business team for some creative recycling

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the Wauconda High School FBLA chapter took on the Wauconda Grade school elementary kids.

The two groups worked together for the common goal of helping their hometown community. A competitive group of FBLA students formed their business concept called Recycled Roots. This idea brought many groups of the community together under the common goal of betterment.

The group gathered plastic container donations that were then papier-mâchéd by volunteers from various groups at the high school.

They worked together for a week to make sure their pots would be ready for the next process: the involvement of the grade-schoolers. The group thought there were no better artists in the community than the ones right in town with such young and fresh talent.

So, a group of 12 well-involved Wauconda High School students took the pots to the grade school. The students were excited about this new challenge and learned what FBLA stood for and how they would be positively impacting their community.

By the end of the day, all students were asking the high schoolers if they could come back again.

The creatively designed pots will be available for the students' parents, as well as anyone else who stops into Mis Plantitas starting on March 3. Check out the new store, 203 S. Main St., Wauconda, and the colorful potted plants.
