Spartans Hockey Club claims state playoff accomplishment, two division titles, and one second place mention

The Spartans Hockey Club has concluded an extremely successful fall/winter season in the Illinois High School Hockey League (IHSHL) winning division titles for both JV teams, and a second-place division placement by the Varsity team.

The JV Green team had a great run in the Illinois State Hockey Championships. making it to the Sweet 16 round before falling to BG/H/W (Buffalo Grove, Hersey, and Wheeling high schools). Thirty-four of the best teams in the state are invited to the IHSHL Combined JV Division to start off the Tournament. Simply making it to the Sweet 16 is an accomplishment itself!

JV Green was also battling for the IHSHL JV Tier 1 Hayes Cup against Lake Central. JV Green was able to clinch the championship in only two games, the deciding game ending in a thrilling overtime win for the Spartans. JV Green is coached by Troy Arneson and Vince Manno. JV Green had an overall record of 26-11-2, an admirable league record of 15-5-1, and a playoff record of 5-1.

JV White also made it to the championship round of the IHSHL JV Tier 2 Championship and beat opponent Lincoln Way Red in a best-of-three series winning two games to zero with convincing victories in both games. They were able to win the deciding game with a 6-0 shutout. JV White is coached by Chris Malay and Connor Mosquera, both new to the club this year. JV White posted an overall record of 24-16-1, an impressive league record of 15-5-1, and a playoff record of 6-1.

The Spartans Varsity Black team took second place in the Cougar Cup championship series against the AWFM Renegades and won the Chicago Thanksgiving Classic tournament beating out the Naperville Central Redhawks in a shootout. The Varsity team is coached by Colin McAuliffe and Dan Doyle. Varsity completed the season with an overall 22-15-1 record, a league record of 10-8-1, and a playoff record of 4-1.

The Spartans Hockey Club is made up of students who attend the following high schools: Bolingbrook, Lemont, Lockport, and Romeoville. The club has experienced a surge in popularity in recent years expanding to three teams this past season. The club primarily skates out of Canlan Ice Sports in Romeoville, Illinois, but uses other local rinks for practices and some games. The spring season begins in April, with tryouts for students in the qualifying districts being held on April 2-3, 2019.
