Schaumburg Gymnastics Academy hosts ribbon-cutting and open house

Passion for gymnastics and a strong desire to share the love of the sport are the guiding principles behind Schaumburg's Signature Gymnastics Academy (SGA). Its owners, a Palatine couple, opened the 17,000 square foot location on March 1 - despite the many challenges presented by the pandemic. Among the classes and summer camps offered for young people up to the age of 18 are small group and team gymnastics, ninja/tumbling and competitive cheerleading - with dance coming soon.

Co-founders Vince and Elise Saisi invite members of the public to attend the SGA Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Open House Saturday, June 19. Schaumburg Mayor Tom Dailly will attend to help celebrate the new business and open gym time will be available to all. Hawaiian shaved ice will be provided by Kona Ice, and one lucky family will win a free month of class tuition (winner must be present).

Award-winning gymnast and coach Elise is the inspiration behind the business.

"Opening SGA has been a dream come true and gives the community a place kids can fall in love with; that has been the most incredible part," she said. "Strangers become teammates, teammates become friends, and excitement for a class can grow into a real passion for a sport."

In addition to customizing individual instruction for students while developing physical skills through class offerings, Saisi says she and the accomplished SGA instructors are honored to be part of a child's journey into their young adult life. Her philosophy includes good old-fashioned hard work, and draws upon her decades in gymnastics and its positive impact on her life. She believes strongly in nurturing the relationships that grow out of a shared love for the sport.

Elise began gymnastics at the age of 2 and competed in USA Gymnastics throughout her childhood. She also competed on the Palatine High School Gymnastics Team, where she earned - and still holds - several top-10 records. Elise coached gymnastics for the Palatine Park District and Fremd High School, where she started as the assistant coach and served as the head coach for five years. In the six years Elise coached at Fremd, her team was in the top three at State three times.

The SGA Ribbon-Cutting and Open House will take place on Saturday, June 19 from noon until 2 p.m. at Signature Gymnastics Academy, 2246 Palmer Drive, Suite 107, in Schaumburg, off Algonquin Road. Open gym will be offered from 12:30- 2 p.m.
