Cary man pleads guilty to home invasion
A Cary man who broke in to a house and hit a person on the head with a nail gun has pleaded guilty to home invasion.
Edward Zegers, 53, was sentenced to 12 years in prison during a court hearing Friday. He also pleaded guilty to domestic battery, for attacking another person in the house.
Zegers was initially charged with attempted murder, home invasion and burglary.
At 1:40 a.m. July 2, 2017, authorities were called to a domestic disturbance at a house on the 7300 block of Sway Way in Cary.
They said they found a person outside, bleeding from the head and face. Zegers was inside in a bedroom, with injuries to his face.
Both were treated at a hospital and released.
