Hoffman Estates downs Proviso West for first win
Senior Berry Chukwuyem scored 16 points to lead the Hoffman Estates girls basketball team to a 66-53 win over Proviso West Thursday night at the Hoffman Estates tournament.
Senior Raven Wilson added 12 points for the Hawks (1-1) and classmate Alysa Dupart had 10.
Rolling Meadows 47, Lake Zurich 43: Alexa Davis had 17 points and Lily Greifenstein chipped in 13 to help Meadows (3-0) win another Turkey Thriller Tournament game.
"We were fortunate to pull out a hard-fought win against a good Lake Zurich team," said Mustangs coach Ryan Kirkorsky. "Our senior guards, Alexa Davis and Lily Greifenstein, carried us down the stretch, and Alexa hit a big shot and free throws. Susannah Holifield continues to keep us together on both ends of the floor."
Trinity 55, Prospect 52: Down 48-41 after three quarters, Prospect's rally fell short at the York tournament. Abbey Danciu led the Knights (1-2) with 13 points and Mia Gusloff added 12.
Conant 40, St. Francis 24: Neeha Kakuturu and Hannah Shulman scored 11 points each as Conant (1-2) picked up its first win of the season at the York tournament.
St. Charles North 47, Wheeling 27: At the Hoffman Estates tournament, Naomi Metellus had 9 points to lead Wheeling (1-1).
Hersey 64, Harlem 39: Mary Kate Fahley had 15 points and Janine Boyan scored 14 to lead Hersey (1-1) to a win at the Buffalo Grove tournament. Aya El-Fiky added 10 points for the Huskies.
Christian Liberty 51, Mooseheart 14: Hannah Mindak had 10 points and Melissa Castro added 9 for Christian Liberty in its win at the Elgin Academy tournament.
