No one hurt in Wauconda townhouse fire
No one was hurt and one resident was displaced by a fire Thursday morning in a townhouse on the 200 block of Brett Circle in Wauconda.
First responders who arrived shortly after 11:05 a.m. saw smoke and fire coming from a second-floor balcony, according to a news release from the Wauconda Fire District.
The fire was snuffed out before it spread to neighboring units but caused around $150,000 in smoke and water damage.
No one was home when the fire started. It was reported by a neighbor who heard the smoke detector go off.
Investigators think the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials on the wood balcony.
