Two police officers, one person in Crystal Lake hotel fire

Three people, including two police officers, suffered smoke inhalation injuries during a fire at a Crystal Lake hotel earlier today.

Firefighters were called to Country Inn & Suites at 600 Tracy Trail just before 4 a.m. for an activated fire alarm.

Upon arrival, police officers told firefighters the fire had been extinguished and they were in the process of removing an unconscious person from the room where the blaze appeared to have started.

The occupant and two officers were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries related to smoke inhalation, fire officials said. Their conditions are unknown.

Investigators believe the fire started in the room's mattress and was extinguished by the overhead sprinkler system. They are still trying to determine how the fire started.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.

The hotel remains open while repairs are made to the room.
