Mount Prospect projecting $5.6 million shortfall

Faced with a substantial drop in revenue as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mount Prospect may delay some upcoming projects.
Village Manager Michael Cassady told the village board this week that current estimates indicate the village falling about $5.6 million below projections for tax revenues this year.
Cassady said village staff has identified about $7 million in projects that could be deferred.
"At some point these projects are going to have to get done, but they don't have to get done this year," he said.
As of Tuesday, 298 people in Mount Prospect had tested positive for the virus, with 181 estimated cases still active, Cassady said. There have been two deaths.
