Boomers let one slip to Joliet 6-4
The Schaumburg Boomers let a late lead slip away as they lost to the Joliet Slammers 6-4 Thursday night.
Joliet jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a Carter Bell three-run home run. The Boomers got one back in the bottom of the frame on a Mike McClellan RBI single. Schaumburg inched closer in the fourth on an RBI single from Jack Cockrum to make it 3-2. Mark Nelson gave the Boomers a 4-3 lead the next inning with a two-RBI double. Bell struck again in the seventh with his second three-run bomb of the evening to put the Slammers up for good, 6-4.
Gunnar Kines had another strong outing, striking out nine in six innings of work. Kenny Towns extended his hitting streak to eight and was four for four in the ballgame.
The Boomers head to Lake Erie for a three-game series this weekend with Brett Mabry getting the start in the opener.
